Privacy, with pants on
Short version: we run a local events site, not a data operation. Here's everything we collect, why, and the choices you have. No lawyer-speak padding.
Analytics — only if you opt in
We use Google Analytics to see which pages and events people find useful. It sets cookies and collects usage data (pages visited, rough device/browser info). It does not load at all unless you opt inon the banner. Say “essentials only” (or say nothing) and no analytics script runs, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind anytime: .
Location — stays on your device
The “nearest me” sort asks your browser for your location only when you tap it, and your browser asks you first. The coordinates are used right there on your device to order the list of events. They are never sent to our server, never stored, never shared. Close the tab and they're gone.
The Friday Alarm email
Signing up is double opt-in: we email you a confirmation link, and you're only added to the list if you click it — until then nothing is stored, and ignoring the email means you never hear from us again. Once confirmed, your email address lives with Resend (our email provider) and we use it for exactly one thing: sending the Friday Alarm. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link (“SNOOZE IT”) that works immediately. We don't sell, rent, or share your address with anyone.
Maps — load only when you ask
The map on an event page comes from Google Maps, and loading it tells Google your IP address (and lets Google set its cookies). So we don't load it until you tap “LOAD MAP” — until then, the map box is just text on our own server. Skip the button and Google never hears about your visit.
Cookies we actually set
Without opting in: none worth mentioning — your consent choice itself is stored in your browser's local storage (not a cookie, never sent to us), and liking an event stores an anonymous marker in your browser so you can't double-tap. If you opt in to analytics, Google Analytics sets its standard cookies. Site admins who sign in get a session cookie — that's us, not you.
What we never collect
No accounts, no profiles, no ad trackers, no fingerprinting, no selling data. Event likes and reports are anonymous counters. If you email us feedback, we see your email address because you emailed us — that's it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR in Europe, CCPA/CPRA in California, and friends), you can ask what we have about you, ask us to delete it, or opt out of “sales” of data — easy, because we don't sell any. For the newsletter, the unsubscribe link handles deletion from the send list; for anything else, email hello@shaynartker.com and we'll sort it out fast.
Changes
If we ever add something that touches your data, this page changes first and the date up top moves. Big changes get the banner again.
