Inspirational Mom

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

This may sound corny but my mom, Anne Davis, inspires me. She started with breast cancer 10 years ago and then esophageal cancer several years ago. In the midst of it all, she shattered her wrist and last year, fell and broke her hip.  She went through rehab, chemo, surgery after surgery but refuses to give up her great spirit, tenacity and sense of humor.  She refuses to retire from her job as a teacher in a NYC Public School teaching kids English as a Second Language because her kids truly need her.  She is 74 years old but still is active as ever.

When I feel exhausted and cranky in the morning and have no desire to get out of bed, I think of her (and just ’suck’ it up).

Orange Shirt Guy

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

One day I was just minding my own business during my advertising club meeting when our president introduced a guest speaker via Skype a one Jason Sadler.  Jason spoke to our club about his business and about his experiences he has had throughout his life.  At that point I had no idea about, and still don’t, what I want to do when I graduate, and listening to Jason talk about all the different jobs he has had was really helpful.  I was wearing an orange shirt and I asked Jason a question and he called me orange shirt guy, and since than I have stuck with that name and created my own personal branding with that name.  Since than I have created my own blog, made Youtube videos, gotten into Twitter and have really started to become social media savvy.  Listening to Jason on his show everyday has made me go from being scared to what will happen after college to not being able to wait for graduation!

Good Boy Roy

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

I would like to submit my own inspiration, my son, Zack who is 15. He is a child that has struggled, endured and persevered his entire life with severe emotional and mental illness, yet continues to get up each day, face school that is a HUGE obstacle for him. HE continues to take in life, best he can and love with all his heart. Through all his trials and tribulations his love of drawing and character design has been his “best friend”, and from this he/we have developed HIS own line of fun t-shirts, Good Boy Roy. The characters are all his own, he draws and creates and each have their won personality. Here is to never giving up, making lemon aide from lemons and following your dream. Kim Hix , proud mom of Good Boy Roy (aka Zack).
