Overcoming an Eye Injury

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

One of my best friends in HS was a great athlete, but on a camping trip there was a misfire of a pellet gun & he got shot in the eye. He lost all vision and almost died. After a few surgeries, and years of patience he recently passed the final stages to become a forest ranger in Washington state. This is something he has always wanted to do & I think that is pretty amazing!

Inspirational Mom

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

This may sound corny but my mom, Anne Davis, inspires me. She started with breast cancer 10 years ago and then esophageal cancer several years ago. In the midst of it all, she shattered her wrist and last year, fell and broke her hip.  She went through rehab, chemo, surgery after surgery but refuses to give up her great spirit, tenacity and sense of humor.  She refuses to retire from her job as a teacher in a NYC Public School teaching kids English as a Second Language because her kids truly need her.  She is 74 years old but still is active as ever.

When I feel exhausted and cranky in the morning and have no desire to get out of bed, I think of her (and just ’suck’ it up).
